14 Tools Every Girl (or Guy) Should Own: The Starter Pack
My best friend just bought her first home, and it got me thinking about what to get them for their housewarming present. I thought about wine or a candle, but that's so basic. What they really need are tools. Basic household tools. You don't realize how useful owning these items are until you have an emergency situation and you need something. This lead me to compile a list of tools that everyone should own, even if handiness is not one of your specialties. These are the basics, a starter pack if you will, to conquer those pesky household chores by yourself. To make it even better, I found all of these tools on Amazon. 1. HAMMER
There are lots of options when it comes to hammers, but a basic wood handled hammer is all you need.
2. HEAVY DUTY TAPE MEASURE
I like to use a nice heavy duty tape measure, preferably a 25 footer.
3. BASIC MULTIPURPOSE SCREW DRIVER
I LOVE these multipurpose screwdrivers. They are 4 tools in one! Each side includes a large and a small size flat head and phillips driver.
4. DRILL
Drills come in many sizes and price points. The drill you need is a basic drill that will help you with simple household tasks. I own two of these drills (one for the car and one for home) because I love them so much. They are lightweight yet tough, and perfect for my size of hands.
5. ASSORTED SCREW AND NAIL STORAGE CONTAINER
You never know when you're going to need a certain type or size screw, nail, or picture hangers. Store them all together in this handy storage container.
6. HEX KEY SET
Two words...Ikea furniture. These two sets are a lifesaver. One is metric and one is American. You never know when you need either so it's best to have both.
7. GLUES
You'll need a few different types of standard glues to start with for random projects around the house.
8, WIRE
You never know when or why, but it always a good idea to have galvanized steel wire on hand.
9. TAPES
Tapes are a great item to to have in your tool box. Here are the tapes I most commonly use.
10. LEVEL
Whether you're hanging a picture or installing shelving, having a level is key. I own 2 different types of levels - a basic level for simple tasks and a laser level that sticks to the wall when I need to hang a picture using 2 hooks.
11. STAPLE GUN
In my many years of using staple guns, I have finally converted to an electric one and it's a total game changer. I use it not only for stretching canvases but also for stapling screens on my porch or cable wires to the base mouldings on my walls.
12. WIRE CUTTERS
I use wire cutters to snip the ends of the wire on the back of the picture frames, but I also find them useful for repairing jewelry, pulling staples or nails, and other minor household wire cutting needs.
13. UTILITY KNIFE
Every girl or guy need a good knife tool. You can use it for opening packages, trimming boards, etc.
14. TOOL BAG
Last but not least, you need something to store all your fancy tools in. I like a tool bag versus a box because it's less bulky and the ones with a strap are nice because you can throw it over your shoulder and take it with you,
